Description

JW White Bhut Jolokia (White Ghost) Seedling

Two versions of the White Bhut Jolokia exist. This version is the JW White Bhut Jolokia which was created by Jay Weaver from Western Pennsylvania, who also created the Jays Peach Ghost Scorpion. This version is wrinkled and long, while the original White Bhut Jolokia is shorter (almost bean like), and smooth skinned. Both varieties taste similar, and while others think the original is hotter, we think this version is slightly hotter. Plants are quite prolific in the right conditions.

The white ghost pepper is probably the most flavoursome of all the Bhut’s and one of our favourites, especially as flakes. A nice build up of heat with a sweet subtle flavour. Perfect for powders, chilli oils, and various dishes, as the taste doesn’t overpower other spices in the dish.

The original Bhut Jolokia was the first chilli to be officially recognised at over 1,000,000 classifying it as a superhot. Really nice entry chilli into the family of super hots.

Species: Capsicum Chinense

Flavour: Just bloody hot!

Colour: Pods ripen from light/pale green to a beautiful creamy white colour

Heat Level: 7/10

Scoville Heat Units: 855,000-1,041,427

Take the hassle out of germinating seeds

Having a hard time germinating seeds or want to take the hassle out of growing from seed and get a head start come Spring time?

Our seedlings have been germinated by us under controlled conditions earlier on in the year so they’re ready come Spring. They will come with a minimum of 4 leaves, typically as pictured.

Seedlings have not been topped, as we leave this up to you. If you are unsure what topping is, please have a look at this video on YouTube. and check out our frequently asked questions.

We’ve germinated from seeds we’ve harvested from our own plants, however pods have been open pollinated (albeit indoors). Although unlikely, pod variations may exist.

What’s included

Seedlings come in a 50mm Jiffy Coir. We recommend stripping off the Coir prior to planting, even though Jiffy advertise their netting as biodegradable, it can take some time to break down. Because the seedlings are still young, the root disturbance will not kill nor severely disrupt the seedling.

If you’ve never grown a super hot variety before or gifting this to someone who may not have a green thumb, we send care instructions with all our plants. You can also check out our frequently asked questions or contact us if you have any other questions.

Care

Chilli plants prefer tropical weather, and typically the best time to plant is in Spring. You will need to determine (based on the climate in your area) when the best time to plant is to avoid damaging or potentially killing the plant if there’s a frost risk.

Our plants require hardening, which means getting them used to the full strength of the sun by increasing their exposure over a 1 week period. Exposing them to full sun straight away may burn the leaves (they turn white and crisp) and stunt growth.

Please be extremely careful when handling chillies from this plant. Anything at or above the Scoville scale of a habanero (300,000 SHU) can cause severe pain if handled incorrectly. Keep out of reach of children. Handle ripe pods with gloves to avoid accidently squeezing the chilli and releasing it’s oils onto your skin. Do not consume on an empty stomach.
